Circular economy Oman initiatives took center stage as the Environment Authority announced details of the second edition of Oman Climate Week, highlighting the event’s expanding scope and the Sultanate’s deepening commitment to global climate goals. The circular economy Oman vision represents a fundamental shift in how resources are produced, consumed, and managed across all sectors.

Event Date and Key Themes

The press conference provided an overview of the event’s date and main themes, confirming that the second edition will build significantly on the momentum generated by the inaugural Oman Climate Week. The expanded program reflects the growing importance of environmental action in Oman’s national development agenda.

Key themes include sustainable energy transition, biodiversity conservation, climate finance, green building standards, and water resource management, with the circular economy serving as an overarching framework connecting all topics.

Innovation in the Circular Economy

Circular economy Oman represents an economic model that emphasises reducing waste, reusing materials, and regenerating natural systems. The event will showcase practical applications of circular economy principles across industries, from manufacturing and construction to agriculture and energy production.

The circular economy track will feature case studies from Omani companies that have successfully implemented closed-loop production systems, reducing waste by up to 70% while improving profitability. International experts will share global best practices in industrial symbiosis, product lifecycle design, and waste valorization technologies.

Oman’s commitment to circular economy principles is driven by the recognition that sustainable economic growth requires transforming linear take-make-dispose models into regenerative systems that create value from waste streams.

Global Climate Commitments

The conference reaffirmed Oman’s alignment with international climate agreements and frameworks, including the Paris Agreement, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These commitments provide the strategic foundation for the event’s programming and outcomes.

Oman’s National Net Zero Strategy targets carbon neutrality by 2050, with interim milestones including a 7% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and significant expansion of renewable energy capacity.

Expanding Participation

Building on the first edition’s success in attracting 80 countries, the second edition aims to expand both local and international participation within the framework of Oman Vision 2040. The organisers outlined plans for enhanced engagement with the private sector, academic institutions, and youth organisations.

A business-to-business matchmaking program will connect solution providers with potential clients and investors, while an academic track will feature peer-reviewed research presentations and poster sessions. The circular economy Oman agenda ensures that every participant leaves with actionable insights and potential partnerships.
