The Environment Authority has signed two agreements aimed at strengthening the environmental inspection and monitoring system and developing infrastructure within nature reserves, as part of its efforts to protect the environment, raise the efficiency of field performance and support sustainable environmental development.

The agreements were signed on behalf of the Authority by Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority.

Strengthening Field Inspection

The first agreement, signed with the Security and Safety Services Establishment by Major General Abdullah bin Ali Al Harthy, Chairman of the establishment’s board, provides for the delivery of environmental inspection and monitoring work across Oman’s governorates.

It is designed to reinforce the field monitoring system and raise the efficiency of inspections and the detection of environmental violations by supplying specialised, qualified teams. The scope covers field inspection, recording violations, preparing reports and entering data into electronic systems, in accordance with the Authority’s approved controls and procedures.

Developing Al Saleel Natural Park

The second agreement covers the first phase of the Al Saleel Natural Park development project in the Wilayat of Al Kamil W’al Wafi, delivered with Alam Al Rawdha Trading and Contracting at a cost exceeding two million Omani rials, and funded by OMIFCO and Oman LNG. It was signed on behalf of the company by Abdullah bin Said Al Zadjali.

The project aims to promote ecotourism, conserve biodiversity, and develop infrastructure and service facilities within the park to meet the needs of citizens, residents and visitors — reflecting the Authority’s commitment to improving nature reserves and the visitor experience while preserving the environmental and natural components that distinguish Al Saleel Natural Park.

Private Sector Funding for Conservation

The funding structure is notable: two major industrial companies underwriting conservation infrastructure in a national park, with delivery contracted to an Omani firm and oversight retained by the regulator.

That combination of public mandate, private finance and commercial delivery is one of the models under discussion at Oman Climate Week 2026, taking place 14–16 September at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre in Muscat, where the Deals Hub is dedicated to partnerships and agreements of exactly this kind.
