The Environment Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate is pursuing an integrated effort to ensure facilities comply with national environmental standards, working across several tracks that include digital monitoring, field inspection, nature conservation projects and sustainability.

Violations and Inspections

The department reported 64 environmental violations of various kinds between January and the end of June 2026. In the previous year, 2025, the number of recorded violations reached 184.

Hamad bin Said Al Farqani, Head of the Environmental Compliance Section at the Environment Department in Al Dakhiliyah, said that during 2025 the department carried out 2,879 visits to factories and crushers, resulting in 184 violations. In the first half of the current year it conducted 1,401 visits, resulting in 48 violations.

He stressed that inspection visits are carried out both on a scheduled and unannounced basis, with the aim of monitoring the management of liquid and solid waste and confirming the application of the best available techniques to limit pollution at source.

Air Quality and Radiation Monitoring

On environmental monitoring and smart systems, Al Farqani explained that five air quality monitoring stations have been installed at strategic locations across Al Dakhiliyah to track gases and fine particulates produced by industrial activity, ensuring they remain within limits considered safe both locally and internationally.

The department also operates and maintains radiation monitoring stations as part of Oman’s early warning system and comprehensive environmental safety framework.

Shared Responsibility

Al Farqani emphasised that protecting the environment and conserving natural resources is a shared community responsibility requiring awareness and cooperation from everyone, and preserving the natural heritage Oman is rich in.

He pointed to the continued delivery of programmes and initiatives to protect biodiversity, conserve nature reserves, monitor wildlife and protect species threatened with extinction, and regulate activities that may affect ecosystems — ensuring the sustainability of these natural assets.

Recycling and Sustainable Projects

On sustainable environmental projects and waste recycling in the governorate, the department carried out 16 visits during 2025 to companies operating in the sector, supporting the growth of recycling capacity alongside its enforcement role.

Environmental compliance, monitoring technology and industrial emissions are among the practical topics addressed at Oman Climate Week 2026, taking place 14–16 September at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre in Muscat.
